     Ultimate for Development

"Sport can no longer be considered a luxury within any society but is rather an important investment in the present and future, particularly in developing countries." - UNOSDP
Sport is essential to the development of youth and nations. The United Nations has declared that "sport can no longer be considered a luxury within any society but is rather an important investment in the present and future, particularly in developing countries." Ultimate Frisbee is an innovative sport that combines elements of soccer, football, and basketball. Because this low-cost sport only requires a field and a 175-gram plastic disc ($3-$6), ultimate is accessible to all communities. Since a disc both floats slowly and flies quickly, it is a beginner-friendly sport that gives youth of all athletic abilities a chance to catch and block. As a non-contact sport, ultimate encourages boys and girls to play on the same field. Most youth have never thrown a disc before, which levels the playing field for all participants.

The Spirit of the Game is a unique tenet within the foundation of ultimate. Spirit of the Game holds each player responsible on and off the field to be respectful and friendly to the players around them. Teaching youth to play ultimate with this tenet builds teamwork and leadership skills. The skills and personal development a player gains from ultimate are directly applicable to their everyday lives. Some examples of these skills include: communication, organization, teamwork, leadership, management of feelings and expectations, encouragement of peers, and appreciative thinking.
